Interview with the one and only Stacey Rourke, author of 'The Gryphon Series'

Welcome to the Virtual Blog Tour for Stacey Rourke's Gryphon Series. This is one of my all-time favorite young adult series by one of my favorite current authors. To celebrate the upcoming release of the latest installment in the series, I had her answer a few questions for us stalkers fans.

What was the inspiration for the Gryphon series?

My daughters. Even in today’s society the media still presents our girls with the image of the damsel in distress that needs to be rescued. I wanted to create a relatable female lead that doesn’t need to be saved.

The series is now at three full novels and one novella. How many more do you anticipate being in the series?

I expect one more novella and one more full length novel. That will be the end. However, I AM purposely cracking a window of opportunity so to speak at the end of the series. If the fans let me know they want more I could be talked into revisiting these characters that I have grown to love.

Do you fear a fan riot if and when the series ever ends?

LOL! Not so much. It would be nice, but I expect more of a “Stacey who?” type ending to it.

As I get to know you better, I can see elements of you in a lot of your characters. (*cough cough* smarta$$) To which character(s) do you most relate?

Celeste, absolutely. She and I both speak fluent sarcasm.

You're known for hearing voices in your head and possibly even talking to yourself. Which of these characters' voices speak the loudest during the writing process?

Oddly enough, Rowan. For some reason that arrogant, too-pretty-for-his-own-good pirate refuses to be ignored. His personality seems to weasel him into scenes and chapters I hadn’t even expected him to appear him. He was meant to be a secondary character but demanded more.

Are any new voices, not related to the Gryphon series, speaking up at all?

Very much so. As soon as I finish the first draft of Ascension, the final Gryphon Series novel, I have a new stand alone book that is demanding my attention. I’m very excited about it and would tell you more but then I’d have to kill you.

What is one of your greatest moments with one of your fans?

When teenagers, that are in fact my target audience, come to me and tell me how much they love my books. Getting kids to read and engage their own creativity is why I do what I do.

What is one of the weirdest fan moments?

When a certain fan, and she knows who she is, told me she loves my books but when she first got to know me as a person I bugged her. She then went on to say she has grown to love my personality. I loved that so much. I love that people feel comfortable enough with me to say “I used to find you all kinds of annoying.” It just proves I grow on people, not unlike fungus.

What is one of your greatest fan girl moments with one of your favorite authors?

I go fan girl nuts over The Hunger Games. Seriously. I have read the book repeatedly and cried at least three times during the movie. Then I scored a mocking jay pin and went bat poo crazy over it. I am close to that same level over Warm Bodies. If I could get a sitter I would go to the midnight showing.

What is something you have always wanted to be asked, but haven't yet? (Or something fans may not know about you.)

What is something I want to be asked but haven’t? Hmmmm. Maybe “where’d you find that wish granting unicorn?” That would be swell.

Anything else you would like to share?

If you’re looking for angst filled books, that’s not me. But if you like a fast paced story filled with snarky humor, action and insanely hot guys, check out The Gryphon Series.

Thank you for your amazing books and for your time!

Thank you!
