Damselfly

Samantha Mishra opens her eyes and discovers she's alone and injured in the thick of a jungle. She has no idea where she is, or what happened to the plane taking her and the rest of the Drake Rosemont fencing team across the Pacific for a tournament. Once Sam connects with her best friend, Mel, and they find the others, they set up shelter and hope for rescue. But as the days pass, the teens realize they're on their own, stranded on an island with a mysterious presence that taunts and threatens them. Soon Sam and her companions discover they need to survive more than the jungle... they need to survive each other.

This taut novel, with a setting evocative of Lord of the Flies, is by turns cinematic and intimate, and always thought-provoking.

When I Fall in Love by Clint Morey #KindleCountdown 1/16-1/20

When I Fall in Love

A self-centered girl's perfect world is turned upside down when she has to care for her less than perfect grandparents while the rest of the family seeks to divide up the estate.

Amy Prescott is just your ordinary, everyday high school senior -- beautiful, brilliant, athletic, able to pick the hunk of her choice, and a scholarship to Harvard nearly in her hands.

Okay, maybe not so ordinary.

She has her life planned out and it's an exciting, adventurous plan. She can hardly wait for the next step. But all those beautiful, perfect plans are put at risk when her grandfather has a stroke and she's forced to care for her grandparents in Montana during Christmas break.

Amy finds her orchestrated world is about to snap. A cantankerous grandfather who doesn't want her help, but needs it because of a stroke. A grandmother who is the sweetest thing ever, but suffers from Alzheimer's. And family members out to protect "their share" of the estate.

As the children seek to solve the "problem," Grandpa, a master cello maker who can no longer do his craft, reluctantly shares with Amy the story of his great adventure - how he met and won the heart of his wife in Vietnam.

It's a nice story but Amy has more immediate concerns. Is her boyfriend dating someone else when she's not around? How can she fend off the Montana boy who has taken an interest in her? And then there's that Harvard thing.

Amy doesn't need any of this. Not now. Her life is planned. It's a perfect plan.

At least it was.

Read an excerpt from The Flirting Games (The Flirting Series Book 1) by Stella Wilkinson

The Flirting Games

Could she out-play the player? Chess champ she may be, but a nervous nerd? No way. And someone needs to stop that bad boy!

When heart-breaker Nate targets her cousin as his next conquest, Ellie is determined to foil his schemes. Getting Nate to switch his attention to her seemed like a good plan, but she didn't count on having to protect her own heart too.

Midnight meetings, fighting or kissing, it's all part of the fun of flirting. Ellie soon discovers that boys are more complicated than classes, and you have to play the game well or you might just get played!

Read an excerpt:
Ellie watched Nate Naverly with narrowed eyes. She hadn’t paid much attention until he had turned his megawatt smile on Rose.
He was sitting too close to Rose, whispering into her ear. As Ellie watched, Nate picked up Rose’s hand and began to trace a pattern across her palm. Ellie strained to hear what he was saying: something about predicting Rose’s future. He slowly rubbed his thumb across the wrist he was holding and Rose seemed to shiver.
Ellie frowned. That was not a good thing. Nate was a self-satisfied jerk, but dynamite with girls. Ellie had seen too many crying over him in the bathrooms to doubt it. There was no way on earth that Rose was a match for his charms if he had set his sights on her.
***
Gently steering Alex, Nate managed to get himself seated between him and Rose at dinner that evening. He directed most of his conversation to Alex, but under the table he concentrated on pressing his leg, very slightly, against Rose’s. She moved away a little. He shifted a tiny bit and again his knee was touching hers. She shot her hand out for her water glass and knocked it over.
“Alright there, Rose?” he asked innocently while refilling her glass. Again he placed his hand on her back, supposedly in a reassuring manner, but really just to test the effect his touch was having on her.
It was at that moment he really noticed Ellie Parkhurst for the first time. She was sitting across the table from Rose and giving him a very speculative look.

No, I only listen to music while I drive. That’s when all the creative juices are flowing.

To sell one million Monsterland books, and seal the movie deal that is going to make Monsterland into the next massive franchise. Also, finish Monsterland 4 and 5.
How long did it take you to write this book?
Three weeks to beat out and write the script. A little over a month to write the book.

Monsterland

Welcome to Monsterland—the scariest place on Earth.

Wyatt Baldwin's senior year is not going well. His parents divorce, then his dad mysteriously dies. He’s not exactly comfortable with his new stepfather, Carter White, either. An ongoing debate with his best friends Melvin and Howard Drucker over which monster is superior has gotten stale. He’d much rather spend his days with beautiful and popular Jade. However, she’s dating the brash high-school quarterback Nolan, and Wyatt thinks he doesn’t stand a chance.

But everything changes when Wyatt and his friends are invited to attend the grand opening of Monsterland, a groundbreaking theme park where guests can interact with vampires in Vampire Village, be chased by werewolves on the River Run, and walk among the dead in Zombieville.

With real werewolves, vampires and zombies as the main attractions, what could possibly go wrong?

Read an excerpt:
What were the interlopers doing here? Billy thought furiously. This was their territory. The humans didn’t belong in the swamp. The moon continued its trip to the heavens, the familiar agony beginning in his chest. Billy fought the demons churning within his body, feeling the pain of metamorphosis. He curled inward, hunching his shoulders, the curse of his nature making his spine pull until his tendons and muscles tore from their human positions to transform into something wicked. A howl erupted from his throat, followed by another, and then another. Grabbing handfuls of dirt, he tried to fight the awful change, but, as the sun dipped to its fiery death, the moon took control of his life, and the unnatural force tore through his unwilling body. Reason fled; his heart raced. Falling on his hands and knees, he let loose a keening cry as his face elongated, his body changing into a canine, fangs filling his mouth. He raced in a circle in a demented dance, knowing his fellow pack members did the same thing. Slowing, he regulated his labored breathing, forcing the icy calmness he needed to keep some semblance of reason. He peered through the dense brush. Lights from the search party bobbed in the distance. The odor, the stench of humanity, filled the clearing.
He turned, digging furiously on the ground, throwing dirt on the flames, hiding their existence. It was no good. Discovery would ruin everything. No one could live with their kind. Humans brought disease, humans brought anger, humans brought hatred. They were there; he could smell them, see their clumsy bodies invading his home. “They’ve found us,” he growled in the special language they used. “Run!” he barked as he turned to his pack, watching his friends’ naked skin transform until it was covered with the same silvered fur. They cried out in unison at the pain, howling with the injustice, and then ran in fear from the interlopers threatening their habitat.
