"On Writing 'Mything You'" Guest Post by Author Greta Buckle

Welcome to the virtual book tour for Mything You by Greta Buckle. Today, I am letting her take over for a while, to share with you about writing this book and the holidays. Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Holidays! I came from the Florida Romance Writers Holiday Party last night, and so writing will be something I’m so thankful for this year. And I hope you enjoy Mything You! When I sat down to write this, the first chapter was to be shared in class, so that my students understood we all make mistakes. I had a friend rip me apart from a writers group I know, so when we started to critique each other’s stories, we read an example of what I expect.

All I intended to write was Chapter One. Then I’d go back to writing adult contemporary romance, which is what I intended to sell (and did. Two Weeks in Miami comes out in February. Marine Colonel comes home for two weeks and meets the fun librarian who can’t speak to men.)

Ari and Theseus are eighteen. It was not my intention to write them, but once I started, I couldn’t stop. Ari was likeable, intelligent, and on an adventure. Theseus intended to prove himself to his father, King Aegeus of Athens, but ends up saving the princess.

Plus it was set in Ancient Athens and the ancient world. Humans versus mythic creatures. The minotaur is the big monster in this one, and he has the body of a man but the head of a bull. Add in giants, thieves and murderers and we’re on an adventure. I love adventure stories where we can add in romance.

Next week I’m signing this book in New Orleans, so if anyone is around Sunday December 16th, come and say hello!

In writing this novel, in many ways, Theseus and Ari helped me. This was supposed to be one chapter. Then it was to be a short story. Then it became a novel, yet at its heart it always remained a fun, exciting project. In telling people about them, I get to meet exciting new people and hopefully find like-minded souls. So hello world!

Growing up on comic books, science fiction, and romance novels, I’ve never looked at Mything You with anything other than an exciting tale to spin in my own fashion.

This holiday season, there is so much to be grateful for. Theseus and Ari helped me push myself out of my own shell and start my own adventure in sharing with the world. I hope you enjoy the story! And this season of miracles, it’s time to appreciate the many people in our lives who helped us along the way.

Must go get my mom at the airport today. My sister in Boston had her babysitting this weekend, so her and her husband could go away to celebrate for a few days. Mom is coming back, and fingers crossed, she’ll make dinner. Oh wait, never mind, I’m female and the oldest. Mom cooks meals for the boys in this family, but if dad and my brother ask… plotting a small ‘get my way’ schedule already, so I must get going.

General reminder to readers. Whatever it is in life you want, intend to major in, ask yourself what makes you happy? Then do that. I spent years not following my passions, and there is no point in wasting your energy like that. Be yourself and focus on you. The rest of it comes, and if you ever get down… this season comes back every year.

About the Author:
Greta Buckle grew up in Irish Catholic Boston before moving to the Miami sun. She’s worked in engineering, then became a lawyer. After realizing she hates clients, she became a high school teacher. Teaching is fun, but writing is a passion. She wrote one hundred and one fan fiction stories online before deciding to transition into writing her own stories. Never ask her to republish her fan stories from age eleven- horribly written stories of princesses. Greta dreams of writing professionally, where her barista can make her coffee and a walk on the beach, can motivate her tales. Theseus story came to her when she was a freshman in high school as her English teacher, the nun, told her how life was hard and tragedy teaches lessons. Greta’s love of writing has kept her centered and focused. How is she crazy? The voices in her head are characters in novels and she’s not insane.
