Tessa is seventeen, goes to Laguna Hells High, and is a witch.

Sounds cool, right?

But it quickly becomes a nightmare when she witnesses a betrayal from her best friend and decides to use her talents to punish him.

Something goes wrong (it usually does), and she has to deal with the disastrous consequences of her actions.

Running out of time and friends, Tessa will have to fix the situation before her high school and her social life are destroyed forever.

Read an excerpt:
She laughed, a Disney-Evil-Stepmother monster of a laugh.
"Watch me, Oddball, and learn. I'm going to kill three birds with one stone."
The cat took a hesitant step toward her.
"You want to hang out with Nathan?" she said, picking up cauldron, vials and incenses from the heavy chest under her bed. There was a racket of tumbling potions and small saucepans as they spilled out of her shaking hands. "I'll give you Nathan!"
Oddball watched her, eyes glinting with interest. Tessa sat cross-legged in the middle of the room. She met his eyes and shrugged.
"Don't worry. I know what I'm doing, I saw it on YouTube."

'Losing the Ice (Ice #2)' by Jennifer Comeaux

Losing the Ice (Ice #2)

Release Date: 02/23/15

Summary from Goodreads:

Courtney and Josh are in love and excited to finally compete as skating partners. When they take the ice for their first competition, they want to show everyone, especially Josh's family, they are the perfect pair.

But ice is slippery, and one misstep puts all their dreams in jeopardy. Now they must show each other both their love and their partnership are strong enough to survive.

Read an excerpt:
We sat on the couch, and I pointed at the mantle above the fireplace. “Did you notice the newest stocking?”
Josh’s eyes fell upon the red one monogrammed with a gold “J.” His face beamed with a huge grin. “That’s for me?”
“You’re part of the family.”
He snuggled me closer to him and rested his cheek against the top of my head. “It’s funny how people I’ve known a year and a half feel more like family than the people I’m actually related to.”
I tilted my neck to look up at him. “Em and Sergei care so much about you, and you know the twins freaking adore you.”
“What about you?” He tapped the tip of my nose. “How do you feel about me?”
I shrugged. “You’re alright, I guess.”
Alright?” He tickled my side.
I yelped. “I think you need to remind me of my true feelings.”
“Is that so? Well, let’s see if this helps.”
His fingers curled behind my neck and into my hair, raising goose bumps down my spine. He leaned slowly into me, his eyes on mine, and he brushed my lips with a kiss.
“Mmmm… it’s starting to come back to me,” I said.
He lowered his mouth to the curve of my neck, and his hot breath on my skin made me tingle everywhere. I grabbed his tie and clenched it as he kissed his way north to my ear.
“You still think I’m just alright?” he asked huskily.
I shivered and shook my head. His mouth met mine once again, and my heart cried out with all the feelings I had for him. They were so many and so powerful I could never put them into words.

We separated for a momentary breath, and I pressed Josh’s hand to my chest. “Do you feel this? This is what I think of you… what I feel for you. Every crazy fast beat of my heart… all for you.”

Review of 'Hidden Falls (Knotted Roots #1.5)' by Ruthi Kight

Book Info-
Title- Hidden Falls
Series- Knotted Roots # 1.5 (Novella)
By - Ruthi Kight
Publication Date- July 3, 2013
Genre- YA Romance

Blurb-

The southern summer was back with a vengeance.

Helping out a friend was what Katy had in mind when she agreed to give Roxie a hand on the farm.

She expected it to be an easy job wrapped in the possibility of a break from her mother’s constant vodka stupor.

What she didn’t expect was to find him.

Brian spent his life in his brother’s shadow, constantly falling short of others’ expectations.

When he gets the chance to prove himself, he's forced to decide if there’s more to him than just the mistakes he’s made.

The summer was supposed to be easy.

It was supposed to be fun.

But sometimes, when you least expect it...you fall.

**My thoughts**

This novella in the Knotted Roots series helps us get to know Katy and Brian a little bit better. From the first book in the series, we know that Katy is Roxie's best friend, who grew up next door to Roxie's grandma. Brian is Chase's little brother. The two of them were supporting characters in the first book, instrumental in pushing their loved ones together. But, they have their own dark secrets that need some attention. They also have an unrealized attraction to each other that is aching to be recognized.

They take turns telling their story from their point-of-view, through alternating chapters. As they do their dance around each other, we finally get to hear from Brian about his role in his father's death. We also get to know more about Katy's problems with her drunk mother and her absent father. I feel like I want to explore more about Brian reconciling his feelings about his dad and his jealousy of his brother. I hope this is covered more in later books, because I feel like it is really important to their healing process. Katy is given a chance to start to take steps to rectify her situation with her parents, though it doesn't end the way that you would expect it to. She has a long road ahead of her, but seems to be with the right people to begin that journey.

The focus of this book is definitely on the romance between Brian and Katy, who have been friends for as long as they can both remember. I like having another couple in the area, for Chase and Roxie to grow and mature with. I feel like some major changes continue to be in store for them and am curious what obstacles they will have to overcome next. I will definitely read book 2 when it comes out!

I gave this book 3.5 stars because I did enjoy the story a lot, but feel like I want more development in these storylines. I do think that you should read this if you are following the series, because particular events at the end will definitely play heavily into the start of Book 2.  I received a complimentary eARC in exchange for my honest review.
