Interview with Savvy and Gemini from A Violet Fire by Kelsey Quick

Welcome to the tour for A Violet Fire by Kelsey Quick! Today, Kelsey is interviewing her characters Savvy and Gemini. Have I ever mentioned how much I love character interviews? I hope you enjoy this one as much as I do, too. Let her know what you think in the comments section. And then be sure to follow the tour for even more fun. Best of luck in the giveaway!

Interviewing Savvy and Gemini from A Violet Fire

Hi everyone! It’s me, Kelsey Quick, and I am hosting an interview today. Bet you didn’t see that coming. Today, I am interviewing two of my favorite side characters from A Violet Fire…

Savvy and Gemini!

KQ: Welcome, Savvy. You’re looking fine as hell in that dress today.

Gemini: Yes, she sure is.

Savvy: [chuckles nervously] Um, thank you.

KQ: And Gemini, nice to have you here as well, despite the pesky daylight.

Gemini: Pleasure is mine. That’s what they make umbrellas for, yes?

KQ: …not quite, but close! Let’s get right into this, shall we? Ahem, so you two are both residents in Lord Anton Zein’s castle from the Sabbanthian Province of Cain, right? How do you like it there?

Gemini: Well, one doesn’t simply live out their eternal servitude in luxury and call it heinous, now do they? Serving Lord Anton Zein is one of the highest honors in all of Cain given his title, and he takes pride in treating us all with honor and respect. There’s no place I’d rather be.

KQ: I assure you, Gemini, there is no way Zein is going to find this interview… so you can be completely honest.

Gemini: [whispers] …you never know.

KQ: Okay then, Savvy?

Savvy: I have no complaints as well. Although I do wish I could convince Wavorly of the same, I believe that our lord’s seraglio is very well-preserved for a supply unit sector, and Lord Zein is very noble in his drinking of our blood.

KQ: Supply units?

Savvy: Yes… humans are called supply units in the Stratocracy of Cain because vampires need our blood to survive.

KQ: …Are you in danger? Do you need help?

Gemini: [scoots closer to Savvy] She is just fine, you keep your hands off my… err… Lord Zein’s precious investment.

Savvy: Really, it’s fine! I’m happy to do whatever necessary to help the vampires. It’s an honorable calling. [Looks around frantically]

KQ: What are you doing?

Savvy: Making sure Wavorly isn’t around. She definitely does not agree with me.

KQ: Can’t say I blame her… Okay! Next Question. Savvy this one is for you. Your world is pretty devoid of fun things. Of all the things you have experienced while in our world today, what is the one thing you would take back to the Stratocracy of Cain?

Savvy: Funnel cakes.

KQ: What?

Savvy: Definitely funnel cakes. With that red, sweet-sauce on top.

Gemini: I took her to the fair earlier. She needs to keep up her strength for her um… feedings, you know!

KQ: Hmm… okay, Gemini, how about you? What is the one thing you would take back to Cain?

Gemini: Oh, that’s easy. I would bring back all of the pathetic humans so that we may partake of their precious blood before casting them to the breeding houses of Saya to replenish our ever-dissolving supply.

KQ:

Gemini: Joking, joking. I would definitely take back these Twilight movies of yours. Fascinating take on vampires and might benefit our brainwashing division!

KQ: [whispers to Savvy] Again I ask, are you in danger?

Savvy: He’s a sarcastic mess, don’t listen to him.

Gemini: How dare you both!

KQ: I think it’s about time to wrap it up. One last question. If there were one thing you could do over again, what would it be?

Savvy: If I had the chance… I would try to go back before they took me from my mother and focus on memorizing her face. I hate that I can’t remember it.

KQ: Darling, your entire existence is a cry for help. Let’s talk afterward… how about you, Gemini? If there were one thing you could do over again, what would it be?

Gemini: Most definitely this interview. I have a feeling I’ve said too much!

A Violet Fire

"A vampire tale with a heady mix of defiance and doubt, rebellion and romance." — Kirkus Reviews

"There is not a single dull moment in this book... A Violet Fire has all the ingredients to become the next Hollywood movie about vampires." — Readers' Favorite

"In the Vampire Stratocracy of Cain, human blood is scarce. For centuries, councils have sought to assuage the blood shortage by enslaving and breeding humans, turning them into profitable supply units for the rich and the abled.

Today, eighteen-year-old Wavorly Sterling is officially a supply unit, bound to serve her blood willingly to her master for the rest of her life. One of only few humans that was not bred in Cain, Wavorly knows freedom better than anyone, and she is determined to escape the clutches of her oppressors—despite the allure of forbidden love."

Read an excerpt:
He grabs the hair on the back of my neck and pulls down, exposing the breadth. My mind leaps to my years of night terrors; to that vampire from ten years ago; to my mother changing before my eyes into one of the fallen. I nearly forget to breathe while terror floods my veins.

He’s going to turn me into one of them!

“No! You can’t!” I scream as he lowers his face to the crook of my neck and shoulder, his hot breaths sending chills along my skin—as if each and every inch knows the horror that lies ahead.

“I can,” he says.

My fingers grasp at his immovable arms that have me locked against him. I pull and push with as much might as my hands can muster, to no avail. If I am dirt, he is steel.

    1. Hi Bernie! Good question.
Actually no. I don't tend to base my characters off of people in real life, although I do kind of pull from other characters in media. Gemini, for example, is a blend of Harry Potter's Gilderoy Lockhart, and Vampire Knight's Hanabusa Aido.
