Owlet Summary

Somewhere between falling and flying… there is a girl.

Iris has a secret. She lost her memory eight years ago and never told a living soul. After an asthma attack one night she finds out that her dreams of a strange house on a snowy island may be a memory resurfacing but the more she learns about the past the more she realizes the life she has been living is a lie. As the façade her father has built starts to crumble around her she will have to decide which means more to her; the truth or her life.

“No! Don’t do that.”

“Do what?”

“Hide your emotions!”

A mischievous smirk spread across his lips. “Why not?”

Iris wanted to take back what she had said and ask him about the ‘big thing’ he wanted to tell her, but she was concentrating too hard on trying not to smile in response to his smirk.

“At least you don’t already think I am a freak for having something big to tell you. I was worried I might scare you away,” he said.

Iris was struck by the fact that he admitted to being scared. It didn’t seem like something the men she had read about in books would say. But somehow, Falcon had the gift of being masculine and innocent all at the same time. It was an odd combination.

“I already know there are a lot of ‘big things’ I have been left in the dark on. Dad will be coming here soon to explain them to me but...there is one thing that bothers me more than anything else,” she said, following him through the trees.

“What?”

“What color was my mother’s hair? Do I look like her?”

“You really don’t remember?”

“No. I really don’t. I don’t even remember my own mother. What kind of girl can forget her mother? Her face, her smell...anything. I would settle for remembering anything right now.”

He paced for a few moments and finally looked up. “Follow me.”

 **My thoughts**

In a world inundated with paranormal adventures, this book took me a bit by surprise. Sure, there is still a battle between good and evil. The main character is on a quest to find out the truth about her life, because essentially she has been living a lie. But there are no vampires, weres, etc. This story is different by being about a girl whose soul is half bird. It sounds strange, but the author makes it work. It doesn't read the same way as traditional paranormal books.

The story goes by quickly, as does the information and the action in the book. It feels confusing at times, like a lot of information is being thrown at you, while at the same time so much is missing. I think that may be a way to help the reader connect with Iris. She is being bombarded with all of this information, which is getting sorted out among all of the misinformation of her life. She doesn't know whom to trust and is swirling in a whirpool of emotions. Nevertheless, you are rooting for her to find her true self. And her story is just beginning.

I received a copy of this book from Tribute Books, in exchange for my honest review as a part of this tour.
